Slovenia
Migration is a way of life in the modern world. Like other Member States of the European Union, Slovenia supports the integration of foreigners holding a residence permit. Slovenia adheres to the principles and values of equality, freedom and mutual cooperation. As the personal circumstances of immigrants are different, we devote special attention and care to each individual. We encourage and facilitate their inclusion in cultural, economic and social life.
After the residency application is submitted, the file will be sent to an Administrative Unit in Slovenia. This office will evaluate your qualifications for a residence permit. If the permit is issued, they will notify the Slovenian Embassy, who in turn will notify you.
Temporary permits usually are valid for one year and must be renewed prior to their expiration date at the local Administrative Unit. After five years of living in Slovenia on a temporary residence permit, an individual can usually apply for permanent residency. Individuals of Slovene descent and those who are close family members of a Slovene citizen or permanent resident may be eligible for expedited permanent residency.
A highly-qualified worker is a person with adequate and specific skills, proven by qualifications obtained during graduate or postgraduate education, or through relevant professional experience acquired in Romania or another EU country.
To come to Romania as a highly-qualified worker, your employer must first obtain a work authorisation for highly-qualified workers on your behalf. You must hold a university or college diploma from an educational programme that lasted three years or longer. Alternatively, you can prove your qualifications by showing relevant professional experience. If you intend to work as a highly-qualified employee in Romania for more than 90 days, you must extend your stay by applying for an EU Blue Card when you arrive in Romania. The EU Blue Card serves as a residence and work permit and is valid for the duration of your work contract plus three months, and for a maximum period of two years.
